Minister for Industry, Science and Technology

Buying Australian made supports home-grown businesses and jobs

Australians are being encouraged to buy local to support Australian manufacturers and grow local jobs.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Christian Porter said the inaugural Australian Made Week, which starts today, is an opportunity to embrace the incredible quality of locally-made products.

“The Government is backing local manufacturers to scale-up and grow, especially in the COVID-19 recovery, and I strongly encourage members of the public to search for the Australian Made logo the next time they head to the shops,” Minister Porter said.

“Every time you buy an Australian Made-branded product you’re not just helping that business, but all the others right across the supply chain – and of course the local workers they employ.

“The Government recognises the job-creating power of Australian manufacturers and it’s why we’ve invested $1.5 billion in the Modern Manufacturing Strategy.

“Our strategy builds on broader Government support for Australian manufacturers with more than 2,300 grants worth more than $780 million provided since July 2018.”

Minister Porter said the Government also recognises the importance of the instantly recognised Australian Made logo, with a $5 million grant given last year to extend its international reach.

Australian Made Week runs from 24 – 30 May.
