Innovation hubs to create 1,200 new jobs

Up to 1,200 new Australian jobs will be created, along with three Innovation Hubs around the country, in a major investment announced today by global company Infosys, a leader in consulting, digital technologies and outsourcing solutions.

Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews welcomed the commitment by Infosys to create these jobs and open hubs by 2020, saying it demonstrated strong confidence in Australia’s business future.

“It’s a great vote of confidence in our economy and the Coalition Government’s commitment to creating more Australian jobs, that a company of Infosys’ global standing would make this kind of investment here,” Minister Andrews said.

“These are the sorts of dynamic business environments that the Coalition Government is determined to foster and support.

“The hubs will bring together a variety of people looking to learn, share expertise and build business opportunities, including students, entrepreneurs, researchers, suppliers, managers and financiers.

“Initiatives such as this will help put Australia at the forefront of the global knowledge economy by developing new technologies and bolstering our nation’s digital skills.”

Up to 40 per cent of the 1,200 jobs will go to Australian university graduates specialising in engineering and design.

The Coalition Government recognises the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills to the future of Australia’s economy. That’s why we announced an additional $2.4 billion in this year’s Budget to grow Australia’s research, science and technology capabilities.

The hubs will enable Infosys to work with clients and universities to address business challenges in areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, user experience and advanced digital technologies, including big data and cloud.
