The Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy, Dr Andrew Charlton will visit the United States of America to attend the G20 Innovation Ministerial in North Carolina and advance Australia’s AI agenda.
The meeting will bring together G20 members to discuss how emerging technologies can drive productivity, economic growth and shared prosperity.
Discussions will look at ways members can encourage innovation, support AI skills and workforce development, advance research and commercialisation and promote resilient supply chains.
The Assistant Minister will meet with partners including the US, UK, Canada and the European Union during the G20.
During these discussions, Assistant Minister Charlton will discuss the Prime Minister’s National AI Standards and underscore the Australian Government’s commitment to ensuring innovation and safety advance together.
The Assistant Minister will also visit San Francisco to join the Australian Deputy Prime Minister’s meetings with leading technology companies and promote Australia as a partner of choice for investment in sustainable AI infrastructure and trusted, inclusive, and secure AI innovation.
Ministers will meet representatives of various frontier AI labs to discuss AI development and training, model security and safety, the Australian Government’s National AI standards and associated expectations for companies to invest in ways that help build local innovation and capability.
