Joint media release with the Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, Senator the Hon Matthew Canavan, and the Assistant Minister for Science, Jobs and Innovation Zed Seselja
Businesses and researchers have been encouraged to take part in the latest round of funding designed to boost economic activity in Northern Australia.
Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Matt Canavan and Assistant Minister for Science, Jobs and Innovation Zed Seselja today invited expressions of interest for grants from the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia (CRCNA).
“The Government has committed $75 million over 10 years to the Cooperative Research Centre for Developing Northern Australia,” Minister Canavan said.
“This latest round is targeting more than $4.6 million of those funds, to partner with selected research projects.
“This is a chance to initiate exciting projects that can develop businesses and provide employment to the people of Northern Australia.
“These industry-led collaborative research projects should target three key areas: agriculture and food; northern health service delivery; and Traditional Owner-led business development.”
Assistant Minister Seselja said those seeking grant money needed to identify industry problems in the north and show how their research would address them.
“Suitably qualified applicants should lodge an expression of interest (EOI) with the CRCNA by Friday 7 September,” Senator Seselja said.
“It is an excellent opportunity for industry innovators to show what they can do.
“This second EOI call follows a successful first round in October 2017, which saw the Cooperative Research Centre commit $7.18 million to co-fund 13 projects with a total value of more than $20 million. Research on these projects will take place across the Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland.”
Note: A project’s value is made up of funding and in-kind contributions from research leaders, industry and investment partners, in addition to the CRC commitment.
