Brewer tops Gold Coast Innovation Awards
30 November 2014
Parliamentary Secretary for Industry Bob Baldwin has congratulated the annual winners of the 2014 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards, headed by the Burleigh Brewing Company.
The craft brewer was named Gold Coast Business of the Year at a Gala awards ceremony at Jupiters Hotel and Casino last night.
Burleigh Brewing Company offers seven beers in its core line-up and employs 22 staff to develop non-mass produced products and says it’s the only Australian brewery to use oxygen absorbing bottle caps to ensure the beer stays optimally fresh.
“The Australian Government is committed to reducing red tape for Australian businesses, removing barriers and creating the right environment for business like those recognised tonight here on the Gold Coast to flourish,” Mr Baldwin said.
“There’s no doubt the Gold Coast is going from strength to strength, with employment growth at about five per cent for the year ending August 2014 and private sector investment growing, with $2.6 billion in approved building activity in 2013-14, up from $1.4 billion for the previous year.”
Mr Baldwin presented the Manufacturing and Construction category award to Gold Coast building materials supplier Nucrush Group, a family owned company that delivers quarry and natural stone products and pre-mixed concrete to the region.
“The family has been working with the Gold Coast building and construction industry since 1966, and serves customers from house builders, to commercial and industrial contractors, local government and swimming pool manufacturers,” Mr Baldwin said.
“They employ 100 people, have eight concrete plants and operate a high quality hard rock quarry and a sand processing facility.
“Awards like this are an important incentive for business excellence because they recognise and reward the vital contribution by enterprises to the regional economy.”
Mr Baldwin said the Australian Government was delighted to have been involved with the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards since 1999 and to sponsor this year’s awards through its Single Business Service.
“The Single Business Service streamlines access to essential information for all Australian businesses. Delivered through an improved business.gov.au website and contact centre (13 28 46), and AusIndustry’s national network, the new service will enable businesses of all sizes to efficiently find the information and services they require.
“This includes information on regulations in Australia, insights into business improvement strategies and essential information on planning, starting and running a business. The single business service also links businesses to specific government assistance programmes like the Entrepreneurs’ Infrastructure Programme, R&D Tax Incentive and Industry Skills Fund.”
